Taking AI to the Next Level - SLIDES AND OUTPUT PAPER
The event on AI adoption focused on helping a cohort of attendees to better understand AI’s return on investment (ROI) and how to integrate AI into their business strategies. With over 130 of us in the room, we aimed to build confidence among senior leaders and create momentum for AI adoption. Key findings from the event, particularly the discussion amongst the tables, have been collated and summarised into the attached white paper. I also attach the slides from the keynote speech by Christopher Allan, HPE.
Key findings from the event included:
- Jobs & Economic Impact - AI will boost productivity but may eventually require workforce adaptation and upskilling.
- Global Competitiveness - Singapore, Luxembourg, and the Isle of Man are advancing faster in AI adoption, risking Jersey’s position.
- Digital Barriers - Lack of payment platforms, open banking, and app accessibility hinders the growth of digital platforms in Jersey.
- Agentic AI: AI-powered agents will transform business operations, with Microsoft integrating AI identity in 365.
- AI Hesitancy: Jersey’s cautious business culture slows adoption—strategic leadership is needed.
- Regulatory Role: JFSC, JOIC, and JCRA will shape AI compliance frameworks in the financial and data sectors.
Recommendations for businesses are to start small and scale smart, begin with automation before advancing to complex AI applications, invest in people and prioritise AI literacy and workforce reskilling. The importance of partnerships was stressed to collaborate with AI vendors and industry experts. Data Governance needs to be strengthened to ensure compliance, transparency, and security. And finally, define clear metrics for ROI-based KPIs to better track AI impact.
Interest in AI adoption remains strong, and a follow-up session could further develop Jersey’s AI strategy. Collaboration between government, regulators, and business leaders is essential to ensure Jersey remains competitive in the evolving AI landscape.
One comment at the end asked if a workshop would help show the potential use cases, so this is under consideration. If you are interested in picking up with me or my team on this topic, **please get in touch at Digital.Ambassador.Jersey@IoD.com **
